This was exactly the challenge faced by a company in the industrial gases segment, medicinal and special, located in Cubatão (SP). The equipment operated with nitrogen at 28,4 bars and 77 °C water temperature adjustment, conditions that require a highly efficient sealing system.
Constant leaks compromised the operation
During a technical visit by the KLINGER Brazil, it was identified that the heat exchanger had frequent nitrogen leaks. The problem caused unscheduled stops, high noise level and directly impacted process reliability.
After technical analysis, the cause was found to be in the use of inappropriate gaskets for equipment flanges.
The solution: GORE® S500 sealing tape
After evaluating the operating conditions, the technical team recommended the use of GORE® S500 sealing tape, made from PTFE.
In addition, to GORE® S500 eliminates the need to maintain large stocks of pre-cut gaskets, as it can be adapted to different formats and dimensions of equipment.
Results obtained
After seal replacement, the results were expressive. In the last inspection carried out, the heat exchanger remained in operation for six months without showing leaks, ensuring greater stability to the process and increasing the operational reliability of the plant.
